Artist's Description
Chunky and noisy,
but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
and instantly
they are acrobats
in the freezing wind.
And now, in the theater of air,
they swing over buildings,
dipping and rising;
they float like one stippled star
that opens,
becomes for a moment fragmented,
then closes again;
and you watch
and you try
but you simply can't imagine
how they do it
with no articulated instruction, no pause,
only the silent confirmation
that they are this notable thing,
this wheel of many parts, that can rise and spin
over and over again,
full of gorgeous life.
Ah, world, what lessons you prepare for us,
even in the leafless winter,
even in the ashy city.
I am thinking now
of grief, and of getting past it;
I feel my boots
trying to leave the ground,
I feel my heart
pumping hard, I want
to thin...

Those moments are a treasure for me Kym...a large part of why I love photographing in Nature so much. More and more I notice what feels like a collaboration on a energetic level, with not only the animal kingdom, but with all of Nature. Thank you for your lovely comments.

Rory, I like that YOU appreciate the small details of this bird's face! Those close moments, when you both are looking at each other, and have a bond, or a "nature's moment" so to speak! Voted, and fav'd

Starlings are cool - sometimes i think they live in a special world of their own. v/f
Rory Siegel replied:
I know what you mean Bob as the ones I see around here seem to act more independently than other breeds. As this one liked doing, they often land on top of the feeder while all the other birds will land inside of it, lol! Thank you for your lovely comments!

Reminiscent of a Kiwi bird I'm sure because of the angle. Very well done.
